Stress & Anxiety
All of us experience stress at some point in our lives. Those feelings are a natural and healthy response to events in our lives that may feel beyond our control. When we are healthy and the stress is minimal, we recover and bounce back without too much of an impact on our overall health. When the stress is extreme or lasts a long time, our emotional health and ultimately our physical health begin to suffer. The constant state of stress takes its toll and overtime can develop into anxiety, depression, fatigue, digestive issues and headaches.
In TCM, stress, anxiety, depression or any strong emotion interrupts the smooth flow of energy throughout the body. Energy or 'qi' flows through our body through a network of channels or 'roads'.
These intense emotions block the flow of energy in the body almost like a 'traffic jam'. This helps to explain why stress can cause muscle tension, headaches, affect sleep, digestion etc as the blockage of energy feeds through into other channels or other 'roads' and can cause a problem in another part of the body. Through acupuncture these blockages can be addressed as the points help the energy flow smoothly and alleviate not only the symptoms of stress and anxiety but the stress and anxiety itself.
